Recycling PET bottles and producing r-PET for contact with food

FRANCE PLASTIQUES RECYCLAGE

In creating France Plastiques Recyclage (FPR) in 2007, SITA France and the PAPREC Group, leaders on the French recycling market, relied strongly on innovation to promote r-PET.

RAW MATERIAL DESIGNED FOR CONTACT WITH FOOD

This sustainable recovery stream for PET bottles received an investment of over 40 million euros. France Plastiques Recyclage makes granules of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) suitable for contact with food in compliance with national and international health authority requirements.

Thanks to the laboratory on the France Plastiques Recyclage site, product quality is monitored at each step of the process, ensuring the compliance of r-PET with food contact requirements and customer specifications.

These granules are mostly intended for pre-formers, ore carriers, and conditioners in the beverage, food, pharmacy, perfumery and cosmetics industries. They are used in the manufacture of packaging needing secondary raw materials mixed with virgin materials, where quality and safety are equal to those of virgin PET.

A SOLUTION TO NEW CHALLENGES

France Plastiques Recyclage is committed to providing guarantees to local authorities and companies in terms of sustainable development and to address their financial, social and environmental challenges:

  • Financial: encouraging the use of r-PET in consumer products. Combining r-PET and virgin PET facilitates substantial savings in natural materials and production costs.
  • Environmental: reducing the carbon footprint of plastic packaging. FPR minimises road transportation and CO2 emissions by taking advantage of the river network.
  • Social: creating local employment. The establishment of a new recycling plant in Ile-de-France created XX long-term jobs that cannot be outsourced.
