REGENE Atlantique is a SITA Recyclage subsidiary specialising in recycling and recovering plastic bottles. It produces secondary raw materials for the industrial sector.
REGENE Atlantique recycles PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) plastic bottles. This plastic material is used in everyday consumer products such as packaging for water, sodas, detergents and other hygiene products.
The mechanical industrial process consists of:
- Taking delivery of the bottles, sorted by colour and in bales
- Additional sorting
- Drying and conditioning in large bags
The main issue is to remove any remaining pollutant after these operations in order to match clients’ specifications. A series of innovative equipment makes it possible, despite the variety of input materials.
Used PET bottles are transformed into two main categories of flakes: AZUR and FLOREAL.
These materials can have many applications because of their quality:
- R-PET: contact with food
- Textile fibres
- PET sheets (thermoforming use)
- Pens, baskets (injection) …
BETTER PERFORMANCES THANKS TO A NEW OPTICAL SORTING SYSTEM
In 2013, Régène Atlantique invested one million euros in a new optical sorting system on its Bayonne site in order not only to improve the quality of the flakes and the material recovery, but also to reduce downtime and costs.
Over 17,000 tonnes of PET bottles processed in 2013
SITA owns a 30% share of the household packaging recovery market
